INDIANA JOE and the European coffee break. Pt.1

In honor of National coffee cake day(April 7th) i wrote this story to highlight one of my favorite coffee cakes, Tiramisu. Enjoy....

The moon hung over her head like a spotlight on the stage, The elderly woman walked through the town in silence. Following the shadow of the Eiffel tower,She turned around abruptly to see there was no one behind her, she shivered, although the night air was warm, As she turned around she was met by two tall men dressed in suits. "Kind of dangerous for a woman to be walking alone at night don't you agree, biscuit?",asked the tall one ."Yes-sir Cupcake dangerous indeed" replied the short squat one. Then everything went black and in an instant she was gone with the moon as her only witness.

It was a cold April morning, the frigid English air creating frost crystals his lid. The Fog was dense and after about 5 feet He could no longer decipher what lay in front of him. He was awaiting his old colleague's arrival, Earl Gray the top private detective in London. His mind was racing, why would a genius like Earl Gray need his assistance? there must be something afoot and he was anxious to find out what. The fog parted like a curtain at the opera Earl swaggered over with a timeless gait which left Indiana feeling as if he was the one who was
arriving late to the meeting.

"Ah the great Indiana Joe, sorry that I'm late I had a early fencing lesson with the prime-rib minister,If i
weren't for big Ben, id never be on time." said Earl his voice smooth and layered with old world charm.

"Yeah i figured as much, you never change Earl always the gentleman. So what do you want? Dragging me
halfway across the world for a chat isn't like you" Indiana shot back ? A light drizzle picked up and rain drops sizzled as
they landed on His top.

"Follow me" They arrived at Earl's loft and Indiana hung his lid to dry. The fire place roared bringing well-needed warmth back into his body.

"There's been a kidnapping, Four desserts have gone missing in the past week. And with the Cafe Europe celebration a week away, there's not much time. We must find those cakes or there will be a riot in the streets."

"Sounds rough, Earl, but this is your side of the pond. What do you need me for? Your pretty good at this
investigation stuff?"

"I've been asked to protect the Prime-Rib Minister with all the kidnapping that's going on. A lot of fingers are pointing in our direction. I need you to go out and find them no one would suspect an American and I hear your the best man for the job."

"Look Earl I have my own problems back home I really wanna help I do but..."

"Tiramisu could be the next victim"

Indian leaned forward, "Where was the last kidnapping again?."

"Venice,Italy".....

He sat on the gondola, Adrift in thought. Somewhere in this city filled with romance, lies a clue to the missing cakes. With only 48 hours to find all four of them so He headed to the Location where the last pastry was seen. Tiramisu the Italian coffee cake princess. Out of the four she was the youngest barely in her thirties yet already popular around the world. The gondola reached a set of stone steps and he thanked the gondolier,
He walked to the bakery where Tiramisu lived, the lights were off and the door locked. He snuck to the backdoor quickly picking the lock and stepping inside. Using his lighter to illuminate the room, he scanned the shop there wasn't a thing out of place. How could a kidnapper sneak in here and leave with no signs of struggle? He heard a faint murmuring in the corner and He went to inspect.

"Who's there!?!, it's OK just come out slowly" Joe whispered

"Che cosa si desidera lasciare in una sola volta!", responded the voice. Indiana slowly moved closer suddenly He saw him, The baker. So malnourished that his skin gave the appearance of a canvas stretched over a wooden frame. Joe's stomach churned and he nearly vomited up all his caffeine.
"My names Indiana Joe and I'm looking for Tiramisu have you seen her?"

"Tiramisu? She is in hiding she has gone home to Treviso" responded the baker in heavily accented English. "if you find her you can find them all"

He ran out of the shop and searched for a bike, grabbing one from a kid, tossing him a handful of bills and peddled away into the rising sun.
When Joe reached Treviso, the sun was high in the sky. He walked into Le Beccherie where it was said she was born. He Walked toward her, but just as he made a move to approach her, two large espresso cups moved in his path.

"What do you want?" they asked in unison. Joe planted his feet and stared in their eyes preparing for a fight."I need to speak to Tiramisu It's a matter of life and death"

"Joe, is that really you?" said Tiramisu her voice a smooth velvety assembly of sound. She gracefully moved across the room to stand next to the two espresso cups.

"The baker sent me here. I need to find the three other desserts by tomorrow or a riot will break out across the country." Joe responded nearly bubbling over unable to keep his eyes off of her.

"The baker? so that old toad is still alive. Fine i will help you The American who came here before you said he took the other three to a place where they would always be on time.". And as the words left her lips it dawned on Joe. The desserts were hidden in plain sight.

"Do you have a phone? i have to place a call" said Joe a smile slowly spreading across his face.
